Adoptive families know The Wait all too well. The wait to discover how your family will be formed. The wait for approval. The wait for a match. The wait for your child to come home. The wait for the "all clear."
The wait for the judge to show up. :)
For a while the McMillens, a family of four, had their hearts turned toward fostering. But God had other plans for them, matching them with a birth mother who would eventually bring baby Cruz into the world and place him in the arms of his mommy and daddy.
What a joyous afternoon this was, with Cruz less than two weeks old and already getting the stamp of approval to spend forever with his parents and two sweet brothers.
The judge choked back tears as he congratulated the family and commended them on their choice of adoption, pointing out to Cruz's big brothers that what's most heroic and rewarding in the world is selfless giving, not super powers and million dollar contracts. To say that I was honored and humbled to document this huge moment for the McMillen family is an understatement. I couldn't help but find myself right back in that same place on December 13, 2011 when Kate became OURS for good. She was already ours, but there's something about having the official approval of the courts that takes a huge weight off the shoulders!
